More Community Aged Care Places for Gladstone

Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot, and Member for Flynn, Chris Trevor MP, today announced an additional 10 community aged care packages worth more than $125,000 a year in total for the Nhulundu Wooribah Indigenous Health Organisation (Nhulundu) in Gladstone. Community Aged Care Packages (CACPs) are an alternative to low level residential care and provide support services for older people with care needs in their homes. ‘Community care services help many people stay at home instead of moving prematurely into a residential aged care facility.

More Aged Care Beds and Jobs for Blackall, Queensland

Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot and Member for Flynn, Chris Trevor MP, officially opened the $2.2 million extension to McLean Place aged care facility in Blackall in Queensland’s central west today. ‘This is an exciting development for the Flynn community and one that will continue to provide more local jobs and aged care beds for the local community,’ Mr Trevor said. Aged care and other health services to the Blackall community provided by the Barcoo Living MPS include residential care, community care, respite care and Home and Community Care services including Meals on Wheels.

Healthier Choices Can Reduce the Risk of Kidney Disease

Kidney Health Australia’s ‘Wee Week’, which is being held from 19 – 25 July, will raise much-needed awareness about the importance of keeping healthy to avoid urinary tract infections (UTI) which can lead to chronic kidney disease and even kidney failure. Kidney Health Australia believes that 1 in 3 Australians have an increased risk of chronic kidney disease, and that many Australians don’t even know their kidneys have been impaired, as people can lose up to 90 per cent of kidney function without having any symptoms. More than $1 million for the Chronic Kidney Disease Monitoring Centre to help reduce the burden of chronic kidney disease.

Meeting the Needs of Older Australians in South West Sydney

Aged care services in Sydney will be enhanced following the announcement of more residential and care places in the electorates of Banks and Blaxland. The latest Aged Care Approvals Round (ACAR) saw an additional 140 residential aged care places and 56 community care places to the electorates of Blaxland and Banks. They are designed as an alternative to low care residential aged care.
